Born Sept. 15 (28), 1911, in Kiev. Soviet seismologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1950.

Riznichenko graduated from the Kiev Mining and Geology Institute in 1935. He joined the staff of the O. Iu. Shmidt Institute of Earth Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1938. He was a professor at the Moscow Institute of Geological Research from 1945 to 1955 and a professor at Moscow State University from 1950 to 1957.

Riznichenko proposed and developed a general time-field method, which is used extensively in seismic surveying; a method of simulating seismic waves by using ultrasonic oscillations in order to study the structure of the earth; and a method of determining seismic danger based on a quantitative study of the seismicity of the environment.
