Paepcke, Walter P.

(1897–1960) businessman, philanthropist; born in Chicago. He worked in his father's lumber business before he started the Container Corporation of America in 1926. Believing that businessmen should work to make culture more commercially viable, he developed Aspen, Colo., into a winter resort and cultural center. He was director and trustee of several educational foundations.
