Split Lumber

pieces of wood obtained by splitting short logs.

Pulpwood used for the production of pulp and cellulose is split in order to remove rot and bark. Split wood is also used to make barrels (oak staves) and roofing (shingles). Because of the labor intensiveness involved in making split stock and because of the quantity of waste, sawn stock is usually used instead of split stock.
