Race Equality Scheme

A scheme that NHS organisations, as public authorities in the UK, are required by law to have in place to comply with their General Duty. Integral to the Scheme is the equal treatment of all patients regardless of race, colour, culture, ethnic or national origin, which requires an understanding of racial and cultural differences by NHS staff and that staff have the necessary skills, understanding and support to deal professionally with people from diverse backgrounds, and in addition are themselves protected from racial, cultural and ethnic abuse.
