racetrack procedure racetrack procedureRack and modules.A procedure designed to enable the aircraft to reduce altitude during the initial approach segment and/or establish the aircraft inbound when the entry into a reversal procedure is not practical (ICAO). The procedure consists of a turn from the inbound track through 180° from the overhead facility or fix onto the outbound track for 1, 2, or 3 min, followed by a 180° turn in the same direction to return to the inbound track. As an alternative to the timing, the outbound leg may be limited by a DME (distance-measuring equipment) or an intersecting radial or bearing. |
