Special Features:Refuge comprises ten separate units stretching along 50 miles of coastline between Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Portland, Maine. Refuge habitat lies within the transition zone of the northern boreal forest and eastern deciduous forest; many plant and animal species found here are at their northern or southern range limit.
Habitats: 9,125 acres (when acquisition is complete) of freshwater wetlands, uplands and tidal habitats.
Access: Open from dawn to dusk.
Wild life: Piping plover, least terns, peregrine falcons, bald eagles, raccoon, mink, gray fox, short-tailed weasel, woodchucks, and snowshoe hares.
