Rachel de Queiroz

Queiroz, Rachel de

Born 1910, in Fortaleza, state of Ceará. Brazilian writer.

The Year ’15 (1930) by Queiroz was one of the first social novels about the Brazilian village. The novels Joäo Miguel (1932), Rocky Road (1937), and The Three Marias (1939) and the play The Tramp (1953), as well as her articles and essays, which deal mainly with the village life of Brazil, are full of sympathy for the people.
