Pakhomii Logofet
(also Pakhomii the Serb). Years of birth and death unknown. Learned monk and writer of hagiogra-phy of the 15th century. A Serb by origin.
Pakhomii Logofet came to Rus’ from Mount Athos between 1429 and 1438. He compiled the first redaction of the Russian Chronicler. He wrote the lives of Muscovite and Novgorod saints, such as Sergii of Radonezh, Metropolitan Aleksei, and Varlaam of Khutyn, as well as numerous eulogies and liturgies to saints, which he was commissioned to write by secular and ecclesiastical authorities. His works are characterized by didactic panegyrism and a rhetorically embellished style.
