Thornthwaite, Charles (Warren)

(1899–1963) climatologist, geographer; born in Bay County, Mich. He took his Ph.D. at the University of California: Berkeley in 1930, taught at the University of Oklahoma (1927–34), and spent several years with the climatic division of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. In 1946 he established the Laboratory of Climatology with Seabrook Farms, N.J., where he made important contributions to his field.
