Abilene Network
Abilene Network The computer network which forms the backbone for Internet2, the next-generation Internet, and which is capable of transferring data at up to 10 gigabits/sec, providing users with at least 100 megabits of connectivity. The name Abilene was dropped in 2006/2007 with the system’s upgrade to the Level 3-based infrastructure and the network is now known as Internet2. |
