Secretary of State for Justice
Secretary of State for JusticeThe head of HM Ministry of Justice. He/she is responsible for administering the British (and in some cases only the English and Welsh) justice system. He/she oversees the prosecution of criminal cases, appeals of immigration decisions, civil liberty issues, sentencing and penalty laws, and other similar issues. He/she also advises the government on matters relating to the British constitution. The secretary is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the prime minister. In practice, he/she is also lord chancellor of the United Kingdom. |
