Section 8 Order

Section 8 Order

an order made under Section 8 of the Children Act 1989. The Act provides (among other things) the following:
  1. (1) a contact order: an order requiring the person with whom a child lives, or is to live, to allow the child to visit or stay with the person named in the order, or for that person and the child otherwise to have contact with each other;
  2. (2) a prohibited steps order: an order that no step which could be taken by a parent in meeting his parental responsibility for a child and which is of a kind specified in the order, shall be taken by any person without the consent of the court;
  3. (3) a residence order: an order settling the arrangements to be made as to the person with whom a child is to live;
  4. (4) a specific issue order: an order giving direction for the purpose of determining a specific question that has arisen or that may arise in connection with any aspect of parent responsibility for the child.

Most of this terminology is now applicable in Scotland but, as the legislation is different, would be known as a Section 11 Order.
