Palladius
Palladius, fl. 4th cent. A.D., Roman author. He was a specialist on agriculture and possessed estates in both Italy and Sardinia. Palladius wrote a 14-volume treatise on farming that was well known in the Middle Ages. Most of the work is in prose and gives detailed instructions for a typical year on an average farm. The 14th book, on growing trees, is in elegiac verse. Although authorship of a 15th book, also in verse, is uncertain, it is sometimes attributed to Palladius. |
