Location:Northeastern North Carolina.

Special Features:Refuge consists of five different tracts of land along 70 miles of the Roanoke River and two distant satellite tracts in other river basins.
Habitats: 17,500 acres of bottomland hardwood forest and cypress-tupelo sloughs, and black and brown water streams.
Access: Open during daylight hours year round.
Wild life: Raptors, osprey, and neo-tropical migrants, herons, bald eagle, shortnose sturgeon, wild turkey, and black bear.
