Tepsen

Tepsen’

 

a mound containing remains of an early medieval settlement of the eighth to tenth centuries, situated near the settlement of Planerskoe in Crimean Oblast, Ukrainian SSR.

The site was settled by tribes of the Saltovo-Maiatskoe culture, which came in large numbers from the Azov region to Taurica. Excavations have uncovered the foundations of several Christian churches, dwellings, fragments of vessels of the Saltovo-Maiatskoe culture, millstones, casting molds, and Kufic and Byzantine coins, all of which help characterize the occupations and trade relations of the inhabitants.
