Securities and Investment Board

Securities and Investment Board

The original name for the Financial Services Authority in the United Kingdom. It was established as the SIB in 1985. After a series of financial scandals in the early 1990s, pressure came to increase the scope of the SIB's authority. It changed its name to the FSA in 1997 and its powers were expanded by the Financial Services Act 2000.
