Topol’noe Lakes

 

two lakes, Bol’shoe Topol’noe and Maloe Topol’noe, in Kulunda Steppe, near the lower Burla River. Lake Bol’shoe Topol’noe, situated at an elevation of 98 m, covers an area of 76.6 sq km. It has an average depth of 2.1 m and a maximum depth of 2.4 m. The southern shore is swampy. The lake is fed primarily by snow. In 1966 the water flow from Lake Bol’shoe Topol’noe was regulated by a dam at its outlet. Fish are bred and caught in the lake.

Lake Maloe Topol’noe is situated northeast of Lake Bol’shoe Topol’noe. It covers an area of 13.6 sq km. The lake has no outlet and is overgrown with vegetation.
