Sports Plane
Sports Plane
an airplane designed for aviation competition, pilotage, training, and record attempts. Most sports planes are single- or two-seat airplanes in the first or second weight class (up to 500 and up to 1,000 kg, respectively), with engines rated at 100 to 200 hp. They are capable of speeds of 200 to 500 km/hr and can fly distances of 500 to 1,000 km at altitudes up to 4,000 to 6,000 m. Aerobatic planes, designed for stunt-flying competitions, have greater maneuverability and can withstand higher stresses than other types of airplanes. Appropriately modified types of military and civil airplanes are used to set records for speed, altitude, and distance.
