St. Vincent, Gulf of

 

a large inlet of the Indian Ocean, off the southern coast of Australia. Approximately 150 km long, the gulf is 110 km wide at its entrance. Depths reach 38 m. The tides are irregular and semidiurnal; their heights reach 3.6 m. The Gulf of St. Vincent is separated from the ocean by Kangaroo Island. The port of Adelaide is on the gulfs eastern shore.
