Pan American UnionPan American Unionan organization founded in 1889 as the International Union of the American Republics at the First Pan American Conference. The Union was created for the exchange of information on economic matters. In 1902 it was renamed the International Bureau of American Republics, and in 1910 the Pan American Union. By a convention adopted in 1928 at the Sixth Pan American Conference, the Union became the permanent organ of the Pan American conferences, and its governing board was established. When the Organization of American States was set up in 1948, the Pan American Union became its permanent central organ.
