Bermamyt

a plateau on the northern side of the Greater Caucasus, situated 35 km southwest of Kislovodsk in the Karachai-Cherkess Autonomous Oblast, RSFSR. It is part of the cuesta system of the Skalistyi Mountain Range. The summit’s surface is composed of Upper Jurassic limestone. The craggy southern ledge, separated from the main plateau by a narrow valley and known as the Malyi Bermamyt, reaches an elevation of 2,643 m. The more massive main plateau is called the Bol’shoi Bermamyt and reaches an elevation of 2,591 m. There is extensive karst formation, which is either exposed or covered by turf. Bermamyt provides a splendid view of Mount Elbrus and the snowy mountain chains of the Greater Caucasus.
