Velebit

a mountain range in the Dinararic Alps in Yugoslavia. The Velebit extends along the shore of the Adriatic Sea for approximately 150 km. Its maximum elevation is 1,758 m (at the city of Vaganjski-Vrh). The range is composed chiefly of limestone, and there is karst. The steep western slopes are treeless; the gentle eastern slopes are covered with broad-leaved forests up to an elevation of 1,300 m and coniferous forests at higher elevations.
