Velikanov, Dmitrii Petrovich

 

Born Oct. 12 (25), 1908, in Odessa. Soviet scientist in automobile technology and transportation. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1968); professor (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1945.

In 1931, Velikanov graduated from Leningrad Polytechnical Institute. He worked in a number of scientific research institutes of automobile transportation, and in 1956 he joined the Institute for Problems of Integrated Transportation. His main work deals with the study of the operational qualities of the automobile, with the development of theoretical and experimental methods for determining (and evaluating) these qualities, and with research into the problems of motor vehicle transport within a unified system of transportation. He has conducted a number of government tests of lot-produced automobiles.
