Seedless Spike
Seedless Spike
the incomplete setting of seeds in cereal crops, for example, winter rye and corn, as a result of incomplete pollination. Seedless spikes result from unfavorable weather conditions during flowering, for example, high temperatures, rain, or high winds. To prevent the formation of seedless spikes, artificial supplementary pollination is performed on hybridization and experimental plots two or three days after the onset of flowering.
