Rockefeller Plateau

a glacial plateau in the western part of Marie Byrd Land, in Western Antarctica. The snow-covered surface of Rockefeller Plateau is totally devoid of bed-rock outcrops and smoothly descends from 1,500 m in the east to 200–400 m in the west, where it borders on the Ross Ice Shelf. The ice cover is 500 to 2,000 m thick.

Rockefeller Plateau was discovered in 1934 by an American expedition under the command of R. Byrd. It was named in honor of John D. Rockefeller, who financed the expedition.
