Trevorite

a mineral of the subclass of multiple oxides, NiFe₂O₄. Named for T. Trevor, a 20th-century British mining inspector in the Pretoria region of the Transvaal. Trevorite crystallizes in the cubic system and has an inverted spinel structure. It occurs in the form of irregular black granules. Its density is 5,200 kg/m³, and its hardness on Mohs’ scale is 5. Its Curie temperature is 590°C. Trevorite is found in the Bon Accorde talc rocks in the Transvaal, as well as in meteorites.

An artificial trevorite, nickel ferrite, is an important magnetic material that is used in radio electronics and in computer technology.
