terminal control area[′tər·mən·əl kən′trōl ‚er·ē·ə] (navigation) A control area or a portion thereof normally situated at the confluence of air-traffic service routes in the vicinity of one or more major airfields. terminal control area (TCA)A control area normally established at the confluence of ATS routes in the vicinity of one or more major aerodromes (ICAO). It extends upward from the surface or higher to specified altitudes, within which all aircraft are subjected to operating rules.
