Location:On County Route 603 (Laurel Avenue) in Franklin Township, Somerset County, NJ, between County Route 518 and NJ 27.

Special Features:In 1783, while the Continental Congress was meeting at Nassau Hall innearby Princeton, Congress rented the house from the widow of JudgeJohn Berrien for use by General George Washington from August 23 toNovember 10, 1783. Martha Washington joined him there during thisperiod, and it was here that he got word that the Treaty of Paris hadbeen signed and the Thirteen Colonies were independent of Great Britain.
