Rock Island Trail State Park
Location:Between Alta (Peoria County) to Toulon (Stark County).
Facilities:Class D primitive campsites (in Kickpoo Creek Recreation Area) withpicnic tables, shelter, and water; parking, water, and pit toilets atall access sites along the trail; visitor center/railroad museum.
Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Following the abandoned Rock Island Railroad line, the trail travelsthrough five towns (Alta, Dunlap, Princeville, Wyoming, and Toulon)over several bridges, including a trestle bridge over the Spoon River.The trail is lined with trees for much of the way, passing farmland,prairie grass, and wildflower meadows, and is considered one of thefinest in Illinois. A restored train depot in Wyoming, Illinois, servesas trail headquarters.
