Paper Machine, Cylinder
Paper Machine, Cylinder
a continuous machine used for the concentration of dilute fiber pulp, for example, cellulose, wood pulp, and paper pulp by partial dehydration. Cylinder paper machines are used in the paper and pulp industry. The principal working element of the machine is a cylindrical filter rotating in a vat with the suspension. While in operation, a layer of thickened pulp forms on the surface of the filter while water drains through to the interior of the cylinder. Mechanisms such as couch rolls and doctor blades are then used for removing the pulp. The concentration of a suspension can be increased in a cylinder paper machine from 0.2 to 40 percent (by weight).
