Railroad-Car Washing Station

Railroad-Car Washing Station

an installation for the mechanized washing of railroad passenger cars.

A stationary washing station consists of reinforced-concrete substructures, on both sides of the tracks, on which drums are vertically installed with rotating brushes and a water pipeline equipped with sprayers is mounted. Railroad rolling stock passes through the washing station at a speed of up to 66 m per min and undergoes simultaneous cleaning by the brushes and by the action of a washing solution.

Mobile washing stations include a gantry mounted on railroad trucks, which ensure that the washing station moves along a rail gauge of 4,600 mm alongside rolling stock at a speed of up to 9 m per min. The unit has an air compressor, tanks with washing solution, and a system of pipelines with nozzles and rotating brushes. When it is possible to operate between tracks, a lightweight washing station is utilized, mounted on a lift truck.
