sleep-phase syndrome

sleep-phase syndrome

An autosomal dominant condition in which the person sleeps well and for a normal amount of time but not at the usual bedtime hours. Those with delayed sleep-phase syndrome may function best if they go to sleep about the time most people are awakening. Those with advanced sleep-phase syndrome do best when they go to sleep in late afternoon or early evening and arise about midnight. When allowed to sleep at these hours, persons with this condition function normally. Synonym: advanced sleep-phase syndrome
