An ↑ TSH before or after administration of TRH in the face of normal T3 and T4; SH affects 6-7% of ♀ and 2-3 of ♂, with 5-10% annual rate of progression to overt hypothyroidism in children and adolescents, SH is a benign remitting process, and may not require therapy

subclinical hypothyroidism

A mild elevation of serum thyrotropin level without overt symptoms or signs of thyroid insufficiency. It occurs in 5% to 20% of women over 60 and about the same percentage of men over 75. See also: hypothyroidism
