three star rating

three star rating

A quality rating accorded an acute hospital trust based on the NHS star rating system which assessed an NHS organisation’s performance in terms of service to its patients. Three-star trusts had the highest levels of performance, based on the Healthcare Commission’s performance indicators. As of 2006, so-called annual health-checks replaced the star ratings system. The Commission was abolished in early 2009 and most of its responsibilities subsumed by the Care Quality Commission.
