papulonecrotic tuberculid

A distinct tuberculosis-associated disorder characterised as a chronic, recurrent and symmetric eruption of necrotising skin papules arising in crops, primarily on the extremities, which usually heal with varioliform scarring. Papulonecrotic tuberculid is thought to represent a hypersensitivity reaction to tuberculosis antigens released from a distant focus of infection. Most patients react briskly to the Mantoux skin test (purified protein derivative, PPD) and may have other evidence of current or past tuberculosis.
