Abler, Ronald (Francis)

(1939– ) geographer; born in Milwaukee, Wis. He was a co-author of a major text on the spatial organization tradition in geography (1971) and editor of a comparative atlas of U.S. metropolitan regions (1976). He was director of the Geography and Regional Science Program at the National Science Foundation (1984–88) and in 1990 became executive director of the Association of American Geographers.
