Tactical Symbols

 

graphic representations used on military maps and charts to indicate the position and actions of friendly forces and the enemy and to locate combat equipment, defensive structures, obstacles, communications lines, headquarters, rear areas, airfields, and so on.

In the Soviet armed forces it is conventional to designate friendly forces in red and enemy forces in blue, brown, or green; defensive structures and obstacles are shown in black. (Figure 1 gives examples of some tactical symbols.)
