Post Office, Main
(in Russian, pochtamt), a large communications enterprise supplying all types of postal, telegraph, and telephone services to individuals, institutions, and enterprises. In the USSR, there are main post offices in the administrative centers of republics, krais, and oblasts. As a city’s central postal enterprise, a main post office performs its own production functions and also organizes and directs the work of post offices under its jurisdiction.
