rodding rodding[′räd·iŋ] (engineering) An operation in which a rod is passed through a length of tubing such as a rifle or pipework to determine if the bore is clear. (petrology) In metamorphic rocks, a linear structure in which the stronger parts, such as vein quartz or quartz pebbles, have been shaped into parallel rods. rodding1.
