Rainolds or Reynolds, John

(both: rĕn`əldz), 1549–1607, English clergyman and biblical scholar. He was a fellow (1568–86) of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and later president (1598–1607) of the college. He was a leading Puritan representative at the Hampton Court Conference (1604). He suggested to King James I that a new translation of the Bible be undertaken, and he assisted in translating the Prophets for the King James Version.
