post scarcity society

post scarcity society

the society of abundance in which scarcity has been eliminated, envisaged by some socialist thinkers. Counter-arguments suggest that there are always likely to be scarcities, including POSITIONAL GOODS, given that world resources are finite. A postindustrial, or postmodern, order might arise where the impetus to continuous accumulation associated with CAPITALISM was replaced by other goals, and it is in this sense that endemic scarcity might then cease.
