[tə′rȯid·əl mag′ned·ik ′sər·kət] (electromagnetism) Doughnut-shaped piece of magnetic material, together with one or more coils of current-carrying wire wound about the doughnut, with the permeability of the magnetic material high enough so that the magnetic flux is almost completely confined within it.
