Rogers, Kenny (Ray)

(1941– ) popular singer, guitarist; born in Houston, Texas. While in high school he performed on American Bandstand and in the 1960s and 1970s played in various jazz, folk, and country-rock groups including Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. On his own as a country singer, he found wide popularity with the hit "Lucille" (1977) and then produced such hits as "Lady" (1980) and "I Don't Need You" (1981).
