[pə′tas·ē·əm bī′səl‚fīt] (inorganic chemistry) KHSO3 White, water-soluble powder with sulfur dioxide aroma; insoluble in alcohol; decomposes when heated; used as an antiseptic and reducing chemical, and in analytical chemistry, tanning, and bleaching. Also known as potassium acid sulfite.
