Seidensticker, Edward George

(1921– ) scholar, translator, educator; born in Castle Rock, Colo. He earned an M.A. at Columbia University and taught Japanese at the University of Michigan (1966–77) and Columbia University (1977–85). He is best known for his masterly translation of the famous 11th-century Japanese novel, The Tale of Genji (1976).
