In 1967, Franz Seidl of Vienna, Austria, invented a device that would record spirit voices. It consisted of a tape recorder attached to a simple form of radio receiver and amplifier. The receiver had a wide range of frequencies. Theoretically any voices coming over the radio would be amplified and then recorded. He called the device a “psychophone” and described it in his book The Phenomenon of Transcendental Voices (1971).
