annulus of ZinnA ring of fibrous tissue behind the eye that surrounds the optic nerve and the ophthalmic artery and vein. It consists of the origins of five of the extraocular muscles: the superior oblique, and the inferior, lateral, medial, and superior rectus muscles. Synonym: annular tendonSee also: Zinn, Johannannulus of Zinn The common tendon from which arise the four recti muscles of the eye. It surrounds the optic foramen and a part of the medial end of the superior orbital fissure. Syn. tendon of Zinn. See muscle cone. |
