Taegu

a city in South Korea and capital of Kyongsang-pukto Province. Population, 1.1 million (1970). Taegu is an important railroad junction on the Seoul-Pusan main line. It is a major center of light industry and food production, with factories producing silk and cotton cloth, leather, paper, and rubber goods, as well as enterprises for tobacco processing, rice polishing, and flour milling. Other industries include machine building and the production of machine tools, printing equipment, and chemicals. Coal and copper ores are mined nearby.
