Vyksa


Vyksa

 

a city in southwestern Gorky Oblast, RSFSR, 10 km from the landing of Doschatoe on the Oka River. Linked by a 28-km railway branch with the Navashino station on the Murom-Arzamas line. Population, 46,000 (1970). Vyksa grew up around a metallurgical plant founded in the second half of the 18th century, and it became a city in 1934. Metallurgical plants producing steel, rolled metal, welded pipe, and so forth, a machine-building plant (crushing and grinding equipment), and a sawmill are located there. Vyksa also has a metallurgical technicum.
