a scientific research institute founded in 1930 on the basis of the Korenevo Potato Selection Station (in Moscow Oblast). In 1970 it had departments of physiology and biochemistry, genetics and selection, seed development and virusology, agrotechnology and fertilization, plant protection, storage, economics and organization, and technology and mechanization of potato production. Its experimental stations for potatoes are located at Elets (Lipetsk Oblast) and UPianovsk (Ul’ianovsk Oblast), and it has the Zavorovo, Korenevo, and IPinskoe experimental production farms in Moscow Oblast. The institute has graduate programs and a school for raising the qualifications of agricultural specialists. It has published its proceedings (Trudy) since 1964.
